On Friday 12 May Lismore MP, Thomas George and Parliamentary Secretary for Regional and Rural Health, Leslie Williams hosted Palliative Care Round Table Discussions held at the local Council Chambers in Goonellabah.
Attendees from the Northern NSW Local Health District, community-based Palliative Care Services, not-for-profit organisations and consumers met to discuss local palliative care initiaitves and contribute to the NSW Government’s Palliative Care Strategy. Discussions were around what is working, how to expand on successes and identifying the three priority issues that we need to address and possible solutions.
Ms Williams asked attendees to nominate areas where palliative care services were working well, and what these looked like and how we could expand these ideas into other areas? They were also asked to identify three priority issues that need to be addressed to continue to improve palliative care services in NSW? And what are the solutions?
The event was timely given Palliative Care Week this year was held 21-28 May 2017. During Palliative Care week Staff from Lismore Base Hospital and across the Local Health District set up stalls to provide more information to consumers on Palliative Care.
