An information booklet has been developed for people using mental health services in the Northern Rivers region of NSW and their families, carers and support people.
The booklet contains contact details for important services and covers available mental health services in the local area, how to access them and what happens on discharge.
There is a chapter aimed at family, carers and support people including young carers. This chapter talks about the rights and responsibilities of carers and the available support services and apps. It also focuses on babies, toddlers and children of parents with mental health issues as well as pregnancy.
Chapter 4 explains myths and facts and defines what it means to have a metal health issue. It looks at the differences between “disorder” and “illness” and psychotic and non-psychotic disorders. Early warning signs are explored along with the impact of drugs on mental health and how families and friends can offer support.
There are chapters on legal issues; treatment and recovery; Mental Health and other services; and Participation, Feedback, compliments and complaints.
