Speciliast Respiratory Clinicians met in Lismore to participate in the Respiratory Education Day.
The annual event allows staff from across the LHD to get to know each other face to face and to learn about new techniques and care practices.
The staff, many of whom travel great distances to attend are supported by their managers to do so. Without this support the day would not be possible.
The participants learnt about various aspects of Respiratory care, from administrative to clinical.
Di Goldie, Respiratory Program Manager led group discussion on how to collate meaningful statistics efficiently.
Susan Mills, Clinical Documentation Specialist and Sally Harlen, Casemix Unit Manager spoke about Clinical documentation and the effect on Activity Based Funding (ABF).
Craig O’Malley, Application Specialist was able to provide expert advice on CHOC.
Whilst Karen Kostal, Speech Pathology Manager presented a talk on Tracheostomy, Laryngectomy, swallowing and Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD).
Di Goldie updated everyone on various COPD initiatives underway through Leading Better Value Care. This included the benefits of Exercise Physiology and the new Exercise Physiologist role, Spirometry, Patient Reported Measures and the Breathlessnes/Handheld Fan Trial.
Josh Sauer, Critical Care and Emergency Nurse demonstrated on a willing volunteer how to apply high-flow nasal oxygen.
Clinicians particularly noted the networking and learning opportunities when asked to evaluate what they liked and found most beneficial from the day. Some of their comments included:
