LHD staff were recently invited to express interest in forming an End of Life Committee. The aim of the committee is to lead a strategic approach to:
- Providing excellent, compassionate care for people at the end of their life and their carers/families.
- Educating and empowering staff and the community around end of life
There was an overwhelming response to the EOI which Anna Law, End of Life Care Project Lead desribes as amazing.
“The number of staff who answered the EOI was unbelieveable and shows that dedication and interest is there,” said Anna.
“It was hard to disappoint so many people but unfortunately not everyone can be on the committee.”
“We had limited places and were deliberate in trying to engage a variety of people.
The multidisciplinary End of Life Committee includes persons with relevant expertise in End of Life Care / Supportive & Palliative Care.
There will be representation from executive, medical, nursing and allied health disciplines, and community.
Subcommittees with relevant expertise in a specific area may also be appointed for certain projects.
Those who were interested will still be involved and kept informed by receiving minutes and other correspondence that the committee receives and minutes will eventually be posted on the LHD intranet.
The first meeting of the End of Life Committee was on 9 April and the members will meet every second month.
Staff are encouraged to approach Anna with feedback, comments and ideas to take to the committee.
